Is it worth it to get a home blood sugar monitor if you have hypo/hyperglycemia?

I have a mild case of hypo/hyperglycemia (hyper at night hypo in the morning) and was wondering if it was worth it to get a blood sugar monitor so i can track it and know when i should be worrying about weather i need to eat something before i don’t feel good. just to use in the morning and at night. that way i don’t feel sick as often. please answer if you have any opinion about it.

If you have a long standing diabetes, where sugar level fluctuates too much, there is no alternative for a glucometer. Glucometer will give an instant answer to your questions.
If you are persistently having hyper at night and hypo at morning you need to increase the morning dose and reduce the night dose. (This is because the morning dose will control the pre-dinner sugar level and the night dose will control the morning sugar level). I will suggest, you first control your morning sugar level and then try to control your night one.
Always check for the pre-meal sugar level, because if you try to control your post-meal sugar level you can be sure to have hypo afterwards. So don’t try to control that unless that is too high.
Wish you best of luck.

Do you endocrinologists perform the test that confirms hypoglycemia?

I am pretty certain I am hypoglycemic but would like to confirm and get tips on how to manage and also see if there is another medical issue that is causing my hypoglycemia. I read there is test to confirm hypoglycemia where you fast for 24 hours and they test your blood sugar levels and everything. Has anyone taken this test? Would an endocrinologist be the best doctor to go to?
I didn’t mean "do you endocrinologists" ..omit the you!

I’ve been diagnosed with hypoglycemia. An endocrinologist would probably be your best bet. I had general practitioners ignore my symptoms for years until I insisted on getting tested. What you need is a glucose tolerance test, preferably the 5 hour version. You fast for 12 hours, they take your blood sugar and then have you drink a super-concentrated sugar liquid. They test your blood sugar every hour for 5 hours to watch how your body metabolizes sugar. A general doctor can do the test but an endocrinologist would be the expert. My blood sugar completely crashed 3.5 hours in and I basically fainted. They offer a 3 hour GTT as well, but that would have missed my problem.

In the meantime, the best diet for hypoglycemics is very similar to the diabetic diet. Avoid refined sugar and eat 3-5 small meals a day with a good mix of high fiber and protein.

Good luck!

Blood Glucose Meter reading H1, Unsure why?

I am a new diabetic (1 year) and lately, my glucose meter has strangely been reading H1 all of a sudden. Anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

Have you changed your diet recently? Do you know which foods and drinks will make your blood sugar spike, and have you been eating more of those high G.I foods lately? Try to stick to eating low G.I foods and see what the monitor says then.
Good luck.

Is it better to have low blood glucose or high blood glucose?

The normal Blood Glucose range should be between 70 and 100. Mine goes below 70 sometimes.
Gary B would you email me so we can talk?

BOTH are dangerous. You need to strive for NORMAL glucose levels which are 80-120. ANY value in that range is considered normal.

TOO HIGH blood sugar is called DIABETES, and I suspect that you already know what THAT means — blindness, nerve problems, kidney failure, heart attacks, strokes, even amputations and death!

Too Low blood sugar is called HYPOGLYCEMIA. In this case you become confused and disoriented, like being drunk. If you do NOT get help (eat something) when this happens, you could pass out. At that point, if you do no get medical care (call 911) you could go into a coma and die.

Now, the problem with Hypoglycemia is that it attacks suddenly — one minute you are tooling down the street on you way to a favorite night club. The next minute you wake up in an ambulance, after having passed out while driving, and killing three people in the other car.

Hypoglycemia is usually caused by a poor diet, too low in calories. If your blood sugar have a tendency to drop below 70, you need to EAT MORE!

High blood sugar usually affects only you, but through you it also affects you immediate family. it can take months or years to develop symptoms of Diabetes/ In the mean time the patient suffers from pains they can;t describe (and pain killer won;t help), and various "ailments" that may seem to be age related. Diabetes causes sexual dysfunction, like Erectile Dysfunction in men or "frigidity" in women.

Diabetes has to most serious result — it IS 100% fatal. Almost ALL diabetics die of diabetic complications — unless they get hit by a bus! heart attacks, strokes, and kidney failure are common causes of diabetic death. But diabetes causes the body to respond poorly to other disease, so "normal" problems like flu are often fatal to diabetics. Diabetics are also more susceptible to other disease like infections and cancer.

What you need to do is ditch this Anne Collins thing and go to a weight loss spa. I went to Fitness Ridge Weight Loss Spa in St. George, UT and lost 34 pounds in 4 weeks. Great hiking and terrific staff.

Stop wasting your time with this Anne Collins stuff.

How can I get pregnant if I have diabetes and a very irregular cycle?

My husband and I would really like to start a family soon. I have a couple of health issues. For one, I have diabetes type II and I have polisystic overies which causes me to have a super irregular period. Would anyone have any suggestions on how we could get pregnant? Thanks!

I have the same things as you do. Firstly, see your MD! Start getting both of yourselves healthy, diet, excercise, lots of water, regular sleep. Your body needs to be as healthy as possible aside from those two things. diabetes II is very controllable based off of those things. You may need to be put on such meds as Glucophage to help with the blood sugar levels. Yor husband will also need to have his sperm tested to make sure he can produce as well. Try testing for you when you ovulate. If you are still unable to concieve, you may consider fertility drugs. Best of luck and stay healthy!

is it okay to eat watermelon on a diabetic diet?

some in my family has diabetes and she wants 2 know if its okkay to eat watermelon if ur on a diabetic diet

I got good news for you . Watermelon is fine for a diabetic.

Both GI and GL are listed here. The GI is of foods based on the glucose index–where glucose is set to equal 100. The other is the glycemic load, which is the glycemic index divided by 100 multiplied by its available carbohydrate content (i.e. carbohydrates minus fiber) in grams. (The "Serve size (g)" column is the serving size in grams for calculating the glycemic load; for simplicity of presentation I have left out an intermediate column that shows the available carbohydrates in the stated serving sizes.) Take, watermelon as an example of calculating glycemic load. Its glycemic index is pretty high, about 72. According to the calculations by the people at the University of Sydney’s Human Nutrition Unit, in a serving of 120 grams it has 6 grams of available carbohydrate per serving, so its glycemic load is pretty low, 72/100*6=4.32, rounded to 4.

A load of 4 is great .

What the difference between hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia?

Hypoglycemia has to do with low blood sugar, hyperglycemia has to do with high blood sugar.

What is the difference between hyper and hypoglycemia and how do you eat healthy if you have either one?

Are these a precurser to diabetes? What are the symptoms causes and effects? Are they preventable?

Hypo means too little, or low blood sugar and hyper means too much and yes, either one can be a sign or precursor to diabetes. You need to eat small meals often and stay away from sugary foods and too many carbs because they make your blood sugar fluctuate too much. Exercise also helps you to regulate your sugar levels. Invest in a monitor so that you can see the effects of what you eat and that will help you to control it. Control it now before you go into full blown diabetes.
