CKD & Diabetic Diet Help?

I have type 2 diabetes and was recently diagnosed with CKD. I’m working with a nutritionist but was wondering if there are any good book with diet plans, recipes, etc. for a low carb, low protein, low sugar, low sodium, low fat diet?

Hello my friend,
I have been a diabetic since 1998.

This book has been a life saver for me.

The book is Dr. Bernstein’s Diabetes Solution.

Dr. Bernstein has been a type l diabetic since he was around 9 or 10. He is now over 70 years old and is actively practicing medicine.

He found out how to control his blood sugar and became a doctor at the age of around 45.

When he was first diagnosed, his life expectancy was less than 40 years of age.

Even though he is a type l diabetic, the covers both type l & ll
diabetes in his book.

He even has a cook book now, with delicious recipes, that are easy to prepare.

I hope this helps.

What kind of blood glucose meter will upload the numbers to my computer?

I need a meter that will upload my bg numbers and print it out to give to my doctor that would be the easiest method. anyone have something like that?

There are several manufacturers making glucometers that interface directly with computers. Bayer Diabetics Care, for example makes several. Home Diagnostics also offers several products. (Links to information in sources below).

Microsoft offers a free to use electronic medical records service called HealthVault that can be used to store medical information and forward it to your health care providers at your discretion.

How to gain weight without fear of getting diabetes?

I am underweight and wish to gain adequate mass. But the most common suggestion is to increase calorie intake. Question is how increased calories cannot cause diabetes or does it? We all know that taking more calories than what is needed by the body can cause diabetes in the long run. Please let me know how I can gain weight without the risk of progressing to diabetes.

Diabetes, Will only occur if the body consumes far too much carbohydrates and high sugar foods, that the Insulin becomes immune to the glucose or sugar meaning it wont work and convert the glucose into energy this happens when for long periods of time high sugar foods are consumed and not a short term issue.
I suspect it is the Media that has raised this concern with you, if you are "underweight" im sure this will not be a concern to you as long as you plan to put on weight with a varied yet healthy diet and do not binge out on individual food groups.

Also check with a doctor or GP for the best way to put on weight.

Good Luck :)

Can I become pregnant if I have hypoglycemia?

I’ve been trying to become pregnant for almost a year and just found out I have hypoglycemia (blood sugar fluctuation). Has anybody became pregnant having my situation? I know I ovulate because I’ve done a test and my husband has done tests for his sperm count and he is ok too.

yes you can get pregnant still but for many women, pregnancy makes hypoglycemia worse, particularly in the first trimester. In some cases, women have their first experiences with a drop in blood sugar during pregnancy. This may only occur during pregnancy or may continue to be a problem after pregnancy.
Fortunately, there appear to be no serious threats to the baby if mommy is hypoglycemic. However, it can be a problem for you. Therefore, it is important that you learn to control your blood sugar. For most women, this can be done through proper diet and regular meals and snacks.
Hopefully you wil conceive soon, my research indicates there should be no problem, as long as you are ovulating (producing eggs) and having sex at the right times. Good luck

how likely is it that i have insulin resistance, if my random blood glucose levels are normal?

i have to wait a few weeks for an ovarian scan to rule out PCOS as the cause of my irregular, infrequent menstrual cycle, & i heard insulin resistance can cause this. i have had many blood tests done before, one a few weeks back, and my glucose levels are always normal. is it likely i could have insulin resistance despite this? i am BMI of 20.5.

1337 is a bit off. You CAN have insulin resistance and still have normal glucose levels, but you cannot know without a doctor giving you a blood test.

Ask for an Insulin Levels or a C-Peptide test — this will tell you how much insulin you have in your blood. If your glucose is normal and you have an elevated Insulin or C-Peptide level, then you likely have some insulin resistance.

As to how likely? I’m not sure, I hope someone else can help you. I would guess that it would be hard to tell without more information, but going on your BMI, I’d say that it’s not too likely.

How does Diabetes hurt the skin? & what are the signs of Diabetes?

I read on the doctors wall where they have posters informing you of different diseases and they had one where diabetes can hurt your skin and said "Protect Your Skin" And I am just curious to know. How does diabetes hurt your skin? What would your skin look like when it is affected by diabetes?
My concern is because my mom know has Diabetes type 2 and I am concern for myself and not sure if I have the signs. No health insurance.

A lot of times certain diabetic medicines make your skin more susceptible to burns when being in the sun, and when your diabetic it takes a lot longer for your blood to clot when you get a scratch or a sore. Since it takes longer for these things to heal you also become more open to infections and etc.

I want to conduct an interview on Hyperglycemia (High Blood Sugar). Can u plz give me some question on that?

I need ten questions to conduct the interview.
Thanks
I CAN ASK THE QUESTION SOMEBODY WHO IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE DISEASE, THEY NEED JUST TO CONDUCT AN INTERVIEW, ITS HEALTH PROJECT.

How long did it take for you to get diagnosed after experiencing symptoms?

How has this diagnosis changed your life?

Are you modifying your behaivior (diet/physical activity) to help keep it under control?

What small snacks can I have to prevent hypoglycemia?

I am finding it hard to eat so frequently, so I really need small snacks that will prevent this problem occurring without making me feel full all the time. Is cheese on it’s own okay?

Cheese, crackers, nutrain bars, I don’t eat much in a day and it doesn’t happen to me but I always have something with me incase it does. Glucose tablets also help incase of an emergency.

What are some effective ways of lowering my Blood Glucose Levels?

I am an insulin dependent diabetic and lately my blood glucose levels have been a little high. I have seen both my doctor and diabetic educator regarding this and both have said to give myself more insulin, other than that neither were very helpful. I don’t really want to go over the top with giving myself more insulin and am worried that I may give myself too much. I have eating and exercising well and am wondering what else I can do to lower my blood glucose levels. Any suggestions???

Exercise is always a big help for me. I noticed that my blood sugar is always much better for 12 to 24 hours after I exercise. I think it has something to do with the exercise helping your cells use insulin for efficiently/effectively. Although it’s tough to start up a regular routine, it really does help a lot.
