Diabetic recipes that freeze well?

I need some diabetic recipes for dishes that freeze well. An elderly man in my Sunday School class is having to fend for himself these days as his wife is confined to a wheel chair. (He has to cook for her too). I want to make a few things to take over to him that he can put in the freezer and take out and cook or reheat later. He is diabetic so I have to be careful what I make. Can anybody help?

Low carb dishes would be best, stew with lots of veggies but little or no potatoes. NO pasta dishes. Chili, Chicken soup, Sloppy Joe’s to be eaten with no bun or a low carb wrap for him.

how many carbs/exchanges are in serve of alcohol?

how many carbs, portions or exchanges are in a beer, rum n diet coke…drinks like that?

I’m type 1 diabetic and just curious how many exchanges i might’ve had at my b’day party.

I know i had about 3 in the mixer drinks (coke n rum…that is full strength coke, not diet)

As was mentioned before, there are no carbs in hard alcohol but it does convert to sugar in your system. You really need to know how it effects your insulin level after it gets into your body.

Which diabetic cookbook should I buy?

I am looking for a cookbook with simple -easy to find ingredients- recipes.

My dad has type 2 diabetes. He’s overweight and I need to start cooking for him so that he can lose weight and at the same time control his diabetes immediately because his doctor called and told me if his diet is not controlled he could have a heart attack.

I am thinking of buying one of these books, but I was wondering if anyone has tried any of them and knows which one is the best.

Diabetes Cookbook for Dummies by Alan L. Rubin
The Easy 4-Ingredient Diabetic Cookbook by Sally Hunt
All New Complete Step-by-Step Diabetic Cookbook

I could use recipes I find online, but it’s a hassle because I don’t have a printer and I can’t cook with my computer in the kitchen.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thank you for the information.

I should have mentioned my dad also has high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

I have type 2 diabetes, I also collect "Good" Diabetic cookbooks. The "All-New Complete Step- by – Step Diabetic Cookbook is really one of the "Good" ones. I own it and do recommend it
The recipes are simple to prepare and they’re just Down Home Cook’n,nothing gorment just everyday stuff like: Chicken Casserole, Lemon Roasted Chicken, Skillet -Barbecued Pork Chops,
Individual Meat Loaves,Chili,Stews,Fudgy Cream Cheese Brownies,Cookies,Pies, well just everything.
Every recipe tells the nutritional fact like: Calories,
Carbohydrates, Fats, Cholestrol ect.. Per Serving
The book also has a "Teaching Guide" to help diabetics and their famlies to learn more about their Meal Planning. The book cost me a little over $20.00
"And I use it"
Some other good Diabetic cookbooks are:
"Diabetes Meals on $7 a Day or Less" By the American Diabetes Association.Cost: $12.95
You can find these books at most book stores.

"The New Soul Food Cookbook for People with Diabetes"By the American Diabetes Association
Cost:$14.95
I can always trust the American Diabetes Association for good cookbooks and if I want one that’s not from them I always check it out with my
dietitian.

What are the best ways to reduce the risk of getting type 1 diabetes?

I’m really scared that I’m going to get type 1 diabetes. I match two of the symtoms of it: extreem hunger and fatigue. Type 1 diabetes runs in my family, my sister, and great grandparents had it.

If it runs in your family, you should probably go and get tested for it.
Other symptoms that I experienced include frequent thirst, frequent bathroom visits-like every hour and you feel like you can’t hold it if you want to-, and vomiting after a high carb and high sugar meal-such as a chocolate shake and McDonald’s for me-, and extreme weight loss.
You can go to your doctor so they can check your urine, no blood drawn. Please, don’t wait. DIabetes is very serious but don’t be scared, your doctors can offer all kinds of support.

What to do if my blood glucose meter reads up and down.?

My meter reads up and down to quickly. Why would I check my blood sugar five straight times in a row and it read something different every time? It went high to very high to low to mid high to mid high. I cant even decide how high or if my blood sugar is close to normal with these kind of readings? What should I do?????? Thanks

Your blood machine will read to a 10% fault each time. In other words one test can say 75 when the very next could say 65 and the next can say 85. If your results vary more than that then you might need a new meter. Call your doc, have them check you and see if they can cooperate in getting a new meter for you. The meter company might also be able to help you get a new one.

Good luck…

Diabetic recipes with tofu?

I would like to have diabetic friendly recipes that use tofu. I have never used tofu before, and I am intrested in adding it to my diet. My diet mostly consists of lean meats (turkey, chicken, shrimp), fruits, and vegetables. No pasta, no rice, no potatoes, and no breads. I’m just not sure how to cook tofu. I do make lots of vegetable soups and salads. Thanks for all your help!

Here is a link to the Mayo Clinic on how a vegetarian diet can help control diabetes.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/diabetes/AN00845

Tofu is easy to use. It comes in soft to extra firm. It can be marinated in soy sauce or other sauces and baked at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. You can use it in a zillion ways, whatever you can imagine. It can be used in salads, as a main dish, in soup, as an unsweetened dessert with pine nuts and fruits.

Here are some links to low-fat tofu recipes:

Also look in cook books at your local library for tofu, vegetarian, and diabetic recipes.

Is 106 on a blood glucose meter good for a non diabetic? I need more responses?

Please respond, don’t ignore this question

I would need to know if you have eaten anything OR if this is a fasting result. Either way, its not really bad at all. Normal range for fasting is between 70- 100 for a non diabetic. 2 hours after a meal it should be about the same, but can be a little more elevated up to about 15 or 120.

How does diabetes affect a person in society and in their daily life?

it can be at the workplace, in school, in the family, or their social life. how does diabetes affect them daily?

just adds a little more responsibility. Have to check your blood sugar and take care of yourself. If you do it won’t effect you much. As long as we take care of ourselves we can live a completely normal life! also it’s smart to inform friends/family/co-workers/etc. that we have it.
