do you have to be a certain age to buy a blood glucose meter?

my mom is sending me into walmart by myself tomorrow to get her one and i just wanted to know if you have to be a certain age to buy one.

My understanding is that, as a rule, you don’t; at least in most states. You can call the pharmacy ahead of your visit to be sure. While some doctors may give their patients a prescription for insurance coverage, the meters are available for anyone to buy. If she has some type of insurance it may cover it, however, with said prescription to avoid the expense. Further, there are some pharmaceuticals which may provide one for her free of charge, depending on your mom’s age and medical conditions. Lastly, there are various types of meters. Some are easier to use than others; or, more efficient. It could be worth your mom going with you so that she can talk to the pharmacist for suggestions–you can do the same if you go on your own. Some research would be helpful on the pharmaceuticals mentioned. Good luck.

How to I return blood glucose test strips?

I have several new boxes of blood glucose test strips I bought 2 days ago. I wanted to return them but the store will not take them back. They sell on eBay for only 1/5 of the price. How can I get my money back? I cannot use these strips at all. These boxes are sealed and have never been touched. The manufacturer can only do an exchange, not refund money.

Test strips are consider an "expendable medical supply", and according to federal law they CANNOT be returned. Yes, the boxes are sealed, but since they are classified as "expendable" the law will not allow a return.

You cannot get your full money back. ASk you doctor if he has any patients that use those kinds of strips, or donate them to a "free clinic" or homeless shelter (the doctors at homeless shelters might be able to use them).

What should my friend with hypoglycemia eat?

Okay. My friend is always tired and has been since he was little. My mom and I were talking and we came up with hypoglycemia because that is what my grandma has and she has the same ‘symptoms’. I have been told that he should eat about six small meals that are high in protein. What are some foods and snacks that are high in protein? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

There are many reasons for chronic fatigue and I think your friend should see a doctor and get some blood tests done.

Is there a website that lists diabetic food exchanges for all sorts of foods?

I am on the Richard Simmons FoodMover diet and now that I am branching out into more healthy cooking, I want to be able to access the diabetic exchanges for more. Are there websites that can help me out?

There are zillions of sites.

How do you differentiates between hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia?

Wrong section, but hyper means overly or too much, hypo is the opposite. Hyperglycemia is elevated sugar levels, hypoglycemia is unhealthy low blood sugar levels.

What kind of birthday cake can I make for a diabetic?

Tomorrow we’re celebrating my mom’s birthday, and I planned on making a cake, but she is diabetic. She is still only a diet regulated diabetic, so she can have small amounts of sugar, its more of a points base system depending on how many carbs and such she consumes everyday.

Anyways, I’m looking for a recipe that will be good for her. She has a horrible sweet tooth, and loves chocolate (so often I find her cheating on her diet! :p) Any ideas?
