Should someone not formally diagnosed with hypoglycemia, but with many symptoms, wear a medical alert bracelet?
I have not been officially dignosed with reactive hypoglycemia, but often suffer from symptoms such as diziness, fatigue, weakness, pounding heart, shakiness and cold sweats. Would it be beneficial to wear a medical alert bracelet as to not be mistaken for being drunk if experiencing low blood sugar?
How do doctors diagnose hypoglycemia?
My Dr hold me that Hypoglycemia can only be accurately diagnosed by the symptoms. since it has only been the last 70 years that they researchers have known of hypoglycemia and actively studying it, there has not been a sure test to diagnose it yet. they are finding that only a small percentage of people who are hypoglycemic actually show a drastic change in their blood sugar count. I am hypoglycemic and wasn’t diagnosed for about 5 years. I finally went to a Dr at a University (they tend to be up on the latest in medicine) who diagnosed me. But my blood sugar readings looked just like someone who is "normal", even though i would come close to passing out just about every day. I went to a nutritionist after finding out that i was hypoglycemic and changed my diet drastically, which helped with the symptoms. I wear the medical ID bracelet because it reminds me that my hypoglycemia is a serious thing and if ever i do pass out or something happen medical personal will know how to help me.
If you are displaying the symptoms of Hypoglycemia, I would highly recommend getting a medical bracelet and talking to a nutritionist. Hypoglycemia can become a very serious condition if not handled properly.
