Where can I find recipes for a restricted diet?

My mother is diabetic and also has problem with her kidneys. There are so many things she can’t have. She is getting board with the limited meals she does have.

She can’t have tomatoes, beans, organ meat. Those are a main issue as most low fat recipes call for these. Also, she needs to have a lot of protein.

There are many good internet sites for diabetic recipies. Here are a few to get you started:

Why does this alleged-diabetic-friendly recipe have brown sugar in it?

I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes yesterday. I’m not sure why because I always thought I had a pretty good diet for a 19 year old. Now I don’t know what the hell to eat? So I was looking up recipes and I found this delicious sounding Blueberry French Toast recipe…BUT it has 4 TABLESPOONS of brown sugar in it?

What the hell? Isn’t any type of sugar bad for pre/full diabetics

If anyone knows a good diabetes cookbook or recipe website..please pass it forward.

oh my goodness.. diabetics can eat freaking sugar!!! they just have to take medication. gosh. why does everyone think were like "allergic" to sugar or something. its virtually impossible not to have any sugar. sugar is in everything. you need sugar to live

What is a good cookbook that uses only fruits and vegetables in its recipes?

(I am looking for one that does not use carbohydrates – bread, rice, etc. – and one that uses little to no meat. It can be a vegetarian cookbook, a vegan cookbook, a raw food cookbook, a diabetic cookbook, a diet cookbook, or a standard cookbook. I am, however, looking for one that does not require expensive equipment such as a dehydrator.)

I would go with this one:
Five-a-Day Fruit & Vegetable Cookbook

http://www.amazon.com/Five-Day-Fruit-Vegetable-Cookbook/dp/0754813223

This one is a vegan cookbook by the Jazzy Vegetarian…..which I don’t really care for as I like my whole milk, cream and butter.

Need a quick diabetic recipe?

I am going today to visit my Grandmother who was on life support and not expected to live.By the grace of God,after all of this and in a bed for 5 months, she is now in rehab learning to walk again:)
She says the food is awful!!!!!
She is on a soft diet and is diabetic.I want to whip her up something easy and soft that I can help feed to her.Any suggestions? Thanks!

I like Tabea’s idea of a cheesecake. You can even make a "no-bake" one using cream cheese and gelatin.

http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/its_a_snap_cheesecake.html

What’s great about this recipe is that there’s so much potential. You could put a few berries on a slice or spread a little sugar-free jelly over the top of the cake. The author of the recipe suggested using coffee in place of some of the water, which I think is a great idea. You could also shave bits of low-carb chocolate (like Lindt 85%) on top.

I make cheesecake crusts out of pecan flour and softened butter, which is basically just finely ground unsalted pecans in a food processor blender. When baked, the texture is not very crunchy, so your grandmother may be able to eat that. I think the safest choice, though, is to go with a crustless.

You can also make a crustless quiche:

I eat these every week. They’re very good and very soft.

Which online recipe sites offer diabetic exchanges?

I plan on returning to the Richard Simmons food mover diet and I need to find recipes that have diabetic exchanges available with them. Which sites offer these?
Thanks. I am able to find cookbooks, but would love to find even more recipes via a website. Any other suggestions?

Look up the book called "There is a cure for diabetes" by Dr. Gabriel Cousens. I did a light version of this with my grandmother and within 2 weeks she was off all her meds! I also did a similar diet and my cervical cancer went away in only 2 months. This guy is no joke and its all natural!

New recipe ideas for a brittle Diabetic?

My diet consists of Fish, Shrimp, Beef and Chicken, fresh fruit, fresh veggies, and low fat dairy products. No breads, potatoes, rice, grains, or pastas. I also can not have tomato sauces, gravies, or cream sauces. Nothing battered or fried.

What I am looking for is new ideas for Dinner Recipes. Making use of the items I can have, herbs and spices. Web sites and online cookbooks for Diabetic Recipes is also greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Brittle means I test 4 – 6 times a day and take insulin on a slide scale depending on the sugar level at each testing. I am unable to have starches and grains because even the smallest amount sends my sugar levels way up. I am working very close with my Doctor and nutritionist. My sugar levels still run higher than they should even with the medications, insulin, and diet. I’m not looking for health advice, what I should or shouldn’t eat. That is being handled.. I’m just looking for recipe ideas using what I can have. Thank you again.
Most canned tomato sauces are high in sodium, but I was thinking Spaghetti Sauces (tomato sauces). They have sugar added, and they send my sugars into the mid to high 200′s. I do eat fresh tomatoes at least every day though. BTW.. I try to limit sodium due to high BP.

I am on a similar diet, I to am a type 2 diabetic, but as a former chef I have wide range of meals and the background to adapt foods to my diet, look at beans and lentils to for protein, vary the fish and seafood’s you eat, I use alot of artificial crabmeat products, now I cannot have dairy on my diet so I use soya and almond milks, I can have some hard cheese.

Slow cooking with a crockpot is a good idea, this lessens the fat, and you are able to prepare a few days worth of food. And you have a point, with some restricted diets the food can be bland and tasteless, learn to incorporate fresh and dried herb along with spices, cinnamon, turmeric and nutmeg are all good for diabetics, look to making ethnic dishes to to make meals a bit more enjoyable, if you have any more question or need help with your meal plan, feel free to get in touch with me.

What is the best website to find recipes for a raw food diet for my cat?

The recipes must be wheat gluten free and are carb free. My cat is diabetic.

This site has excellent information on cat nutrition, feline diabetes (read!), and on making cat food.

http://www.catinfo.org/

Do not be dismayed if you do not have a grinder. I do not grind my cats’ raw food. It is important that your cat does eat the recommended amount of bone so you’ll have to get him or her used to eating them if you can’t grind.

This commercial site has almost the identical recipe to Dr Pierson’s above:

http://www.felinefuture.com/?p=1299

If it all seems too much at first you can order their premix supplement and use it to make raw cat food from ground meats from the supermarket. It is a good product but not cheap!

My own cats are not fussy. I don’t grind anything. The basis for their raw food works out to 10%-15% bone, 10%-15% organs ( including liver!), the rest meat/skin/fat. With meats like chicken, turkey, and rabbit it is really easy because I merely need hack it up, my cats eat bones readily.

Other meats I feed less often because they should be supplemented with bone meal or chicken necks since cats can’t handle the bones – beef, goat, venison.

Don’t change your diabetic cat’s diet from one with carbohydrate to one without without supervision. The cat’s insulin requirement could be much less and the excess insulin could put the cat in a coma.

There is a feline diabetes expert on this site. I will email him for you.

I’m a diabetic but I want to go on a diet ,does any one know any good diets?

i am doing 50 sit ups ,50 push ups twice and 5 minutes of skipping a day but i am not loosing any weight so does anyone know what a good diet or even a few recipes for a healthy but filling meals/snack (i have to eat every 2 hours).

Try South Beach Living phase 2, not for a weight loss diet (a very dirty 4-letter word) but for a lifestyle change to keep the weight in control for the long run. And walk an hour every day as fast as you can.

SBL books have loads of lovely menus and recipes in them.

I lay out the foods allowed for a day on the top shelf in the fridge and graze all day from that shelf, nothing else other than water. I try to keep my total carb intake to 100 grams per day. This way my bolus insulin injections are less so there is less of it to pack on the pounds on my tummy area (the only place I seem to gain any weight)
