a weight reduction diet suitable for a diabetic?
i am 15 stone but 5 ft in height,i am recently diagnosed as diabetic, most diets include sweet things or copious amounts of fruit, which i cant eat, has anyone PLEASE got a diet for diabetics? i recently canceled my gastric band operation as i was too scared!
No diet that works nowadays has copious amounts of sugar or fruit. Low carb is best. Lots of vegetables, water, lean meat, fish, nuts, eggs, cheese. Lower your carbs and so lower your insulin (if type 1). Exercise is key.

The weight loss is a broad question but diabetic is a whole new one…

The American Diabetes Association has standard diabetic diets in varying amounts of calories. You don’t say what type you have and if you are on oral meds, insulin or both. If you are going to lower your calorie intake, then it will be necessary to adjust your meds. Since you’re new at this, I strongly recommend you ask your doc to work with you or send you to a dietician. It’s difficult for diabetics to lose weight, so don’t get frustrated. You’ll have to increase your activity as well. Fruits, which are carbs are an important part of a diabetic diet and should be included in your carb allowance. Check out some sample menus by typing ADASAMPLEMENUS into your browser and you’ll see what I mean.

I don’t know what diet for diabetics include sweet things as that is the first thing we have to stop in our diet when we are diagnosed with diabetes. Look for a healthy diet that someone that is recovering from a heart attack should follow. No red meat or very little, fish, pasta, vegetables, fruit. I am a type 2 diabetic and I eat a reasonable healthy diet and I have lost 1st with another still to go, exercise is very important for a diabetic. It is better to eat 5 small meals per day rather that 3 large ones.
