On going research at NIN in Hyderabad has proved that Jowar / Sorghum is suitable food for people suffering from Diabetic. Instead choose whole grains like millet, especially Jowar.
Jowar or Sorghum grain is rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals apart from having a sufficient quantity of carbohydrates (72%), proteins (11.6%) and fat (1.9%). Starch is the major constituent of the grain. Jowar is also an important source of nutraceuticals including antioxidants such as cholesterol-lowering waxes.

It is just about impossable to say "Follow this diet" for a Diabetic, different foods at different times of the day and in different combinations give different results to just about everyone.
Cut back on carbs as well as sugar added foods and the rule is Test Test Test.
Testing before a meal then at 1 hour 90 mins and 2 hours will allow you to determine what that meal or snack does to the BS level, the best way of eating is to eat test that meal if it rises BS too much adjust the meal next time and retest. The goal is to have a meal plan that is non spiking after you know what a particular meal does you don’t need to retest it unless you change it. After a while you will have a pretty good idea what causes spikes and in what quanities what food can be safely eaten the process gets easier and you can gradually reduce testing as knowledge builds. Test Test Test is the best advice I was ever givern so Test Adjust retest is a good way to go.

T2 Diabetic still testing and finding out new stuff every day.
You can take help from a diet physician and the doctor.
Replace bakery products and fast foods by simple whole cooked cereals and fibres. Avoid eating food that has high level of carbohydrates.Consume fresh fruit (less sweet) and vegetables at least 2,3 times in a day. Check the level of sugar in blood regularly.
The diet plan for a diabetic also depends upon the height, weight, age, physical activity and the nature of diabetes. While planning diet, one has to consider complications such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.
Avoid salt, sugar, milk products, red meat, white flour and too much tea and coffee. Instead take bitter gourd juice, Indian blackberry ( jamun), fenugreek and raw garlic (2,3 cloves) daily. Increase the intake of antioxidants, sources of antioxidants are herbs -oregano, thyme, cloves, rosemary etc.

Fast 8 hours or you eat, take reading 2 hours later.
The readings should be follows:
1. 72 to 108 ( 4 to 6) as ideal
2.110 to 145 ( 6.1 to 8.0 ) as optimal
3. 150 to 180 ( 8.3 to 10 ) as sub-optimal
4. above 190 ( above 10.5) as unacceptable.
Too much food like coke, sugar, white bread, potato, yam, rice, cake, flour will increase blood sugar level.
You have to plan her menu for her, avoid those I mention, also sweet fruit like durian, mango, watermelon. If she wants to eat them ,she may at a small quantity.
