My husband sugar is 245. We need a diet to follow to lower his diabetis. Can you suggest a good diabetic diet?
need diet to follow for diabetic to lower sugar count. It is to high. Sugar is at 245. please advise
245 is very high. I have parents that both have diabetes and what they do is they get prescription from their doctor. Ask your husband’s doctor for prescription medicine. Also, my parents don’t eat anything sweet for a while (3 or 4 days) and they check their blood sugar once more. If it gets too low, they eat a bar of chocolate and balance it out. This works perfectly for them and it should work well for your husband too. Also, tell him not to stress on things, that makes his blood pressure go up and contribute to a higher blood sugar. Good luck.

Watched my parents do that for 6 years now.
are you in the uk because in the uk 245 would be off the scale and he would be in hosp having emergency treatment, you must be in another country that has other scale different to uk. the secret with diet and diabetes is eat regularly, half your plate should be veg, then 20% of the other half meat or fish etc and the rest should be either rice, pasta, bread or potatoes, never drink pure fruit juice on its own, only as part of a meal, avoid honey, peanut butter, jams etc.. you are allowed a small piece of cake after your evening meal, but if his sugar is really high then it is up to your doctor to put him on medication, like metformin tabs, good luck

Normal blood sugar is about 80 to 110, so his is a concern at 245. Try going to diabetes.org for recommendations on diet and management. Basically, you will want to drastically reduce or eliminate refined sugars from the diet. Getting a handle on diabetes is well worth it to prevent complications like kidney failure, blindness, erectile dysfunction and amputations. Good luck- it will be an adjustment.

He needs to stop eating white foods, eat whole grain products with no high fructose corn syrup. When you go to the grocery store start reading labels and make sure there isn’t any sugar in what you buy. You’ll be amazed as you read labels as to how many things have sugar in them that you wouldn’t think has any. Especially when looking at bread, the first ingredient should read whole wheat flour, not just wheat flour because its almost the same as white flour. Whole wheat doesn’t spike your blood sugar as the other flours do. Also if he eats fresh fruits and vegetables and avoid processed foods he will be alot better off. Don’t buy into the glucerna bars and shakes for diabetics and also he needs to exercise…………..

My grandma is a diabetic and she has to check her sugar everyday. Your husband should try fishes like Talapia, Perch and other fish. Instead of frying them they should put them on the skillet. Along with the fish he should try things like salads and a new idea is eggplant lasagna which is delicious. His sugar will go down if he eats fruit and vegetables.

my husband is also a diabetic and his nutritionist told him that he could eat anything he wanted… only in small portions. Start out with like an 1800 calorie diet and stick to it.
they also suggested eating like breakfast @ around 6am then a small snack around 10am then lunch at noon and then a 2:00 snack then dinner @ 6 and then about 8pm a small snack.
(you always feel full like this)

you should contact a nutritionist to see what would be the best diet for you both. depending on your weight it might be a higher or lower calorie count.
hi, there is no such thing as a specific diabetic diet, however following a low GI diet should help to lower his blood levels, foods which are lower in GI help slow release so aswell as making you feel fuller for longer it will help alot with his blood sugar levels, doing regular exercise will help even more, there are lots of books on the GI diet and also lots of websites which give loads of information. I have listed one for example, good luck with it
