Diabetic Diet & Blood Gluecose

Providing You with the Best Diabetic Info Around

Will it be beneficial for a non-diabetic to follow a diabetic diet.?

My sister has recently been diagnosed as a diabetic and has to take the shots. She is in her early 50′s. Since we are all overweight, I thought it is a good possibility we (me and other sisters) could be diabetic candidates. Therefore, I am thinking of joining my sister in following her diet.

AWESOME!

The diet for diabetics is also an excellent way to loose weight. The diet formula decreases your complex carbohydrate intake, but does not eliminate it. It’s really a model eating regimen that all people benefit from.

What a great way to show your sister support!

My father was diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago and it changed the way our entire family eats for the better. Our family had a slight complication because my father isn’t supposed to have sugar and I can’t have artificial sweetners, which are bad for everyone anyway, so we’ve discovered more healthy alternatives. Instead of white sugar and artificial sweetners, we use honey, molasses, raw sugar, or fructose. Local honey is probably the best because it sweetens, but it also has some protien and helps fight allergies and infection. Instead of processed flour (often labeled as "enriched"), we try to only eat foods with whole wheat and whole grains. You will probably find that eating this way tastes better and makes you feel better. I know I have.

There is no such thing as "The Diabetic Diet " and don’t let anyone tell you there is such a thing.
Each person with diabetes has their own lists of what to eat that is best for their body.
There are guidelines that help manage sugar levels such as eating fewer simple sugars and increasing your fiber intake. Also limit portion sizes.
Those are god guidelines for all people really and it would be a huge support to your sister to eat as she does.
    Be Well….
BTW- Do NOT eat raw honey or any unpasteurized foods if you have diabetes.Diabetes gives you a compromised immune system and your body might not be able to fight off simple germs as well as a person without diabetes.Honey is a simple sugar with more carbos than table sugar.Watch out if you use it.

Cammie has no idea what she is talking about. Doctors order diabetic diets all the time. Diabetic diets and cardiac diets are the same, except in diabetic diets have no sugar, and cardiac no salt.

You are a great sister, I wish I would have had that kind of support when I was diagnosed. You should definitely start thinking about changing your diet now if you need to do that. The best thing I can think to tell you is for each one of you to see a dietitian, or go with your sister when she gets scheduled for hers and ask the dietitian about yourself when her appointment is over, and what is the best way to help support her through food. I am sure she will have lots of ideas and knowledge for you. Doing this will not only help your sister but help you understand what your sister will be going through as far as life changes. Be patient sometimes when we first start insulin,( I know I did) We have some major mood swings and get angry easily. Don’t take it personal. Just do what you do be a great sister. I applaud you!! Makes me I wish I had a sister Keep us posted on all of your progress….
    Happy Holidays
