How much are blood glucose meters?

and can u tell me the meter name and price? and can u get them @ rite aid?
and is there any thing that u have to buy seperatly? like the strips and stuff like that?

you can actually get them for free if you feel like waiting for them to come in the mail. if you go onto the BAYER website or ONE TOUCH glucose meter website, you can have them send you one for FREE.

if you dont feel like waiting for one and want to go buy one then they run anywhere from about $40 – $100 depending on wich one you get.

the Bayer Acensia Contour is a GREAT meter. it takes the smallest amount of blood and it has no coding, wich can be confusing sometimes. its the one that i personally use

Does anyone know any easy diabetic recipes?

My dad is diabetic and i really want to cook or bake something good for him and healthy aswell!!! help!! :) if you know any cake or cookie recipes that would be very helpfull too !!!

God bless you for caring so much about your dad! I’m in the same boat, my dad is a diabetic, and now in kidney failure, so I’ve had to adapt recipes and alter them to be in line with what he can eat. The first link below is a guideline of what to do, to avoid, and change in his diet that I found helpful.

The second link is to a site with recipes from different categories, breakfast, dinner, desserts, etc., that are easy and delicious.

The third link has oodles of recipes, some individual and some "menu" recipes, where they give the recipes for all the foods for a particular meal!

The fourth link is to 179 diabetic cookie recipes, (some may be duplicates,) while the fifth is for diabetic cake recipes.

And, the last link is to a book "Cooking for David" you may want to get. (I found it at my local library before I purchased it.) It’s for people in renal (kidney) failure, which can be a complication of diabetes, but anyone can eat the food as it’s just so good! The book was written by a woman whose husband is in renal failure and she learned to adapt and create recipes he could eat. It’s a GREAT book, with recipes from breakfast to holidays.

I get a big kick out of people’s reactions when they see what Dad is eating, as they drool and can’t turn their eyes away, so I’ve learned to make enough for everyone of some of the dishes, and no one complains! Diabetic foods can be just as tasty, and are definitely healthier, than regular food.

Take care, and have fun cooking!

What is a good site to get diabetic recipes for a 15 year old?

My son is 15 and has diabetes since age 10. We are looking for new recipes that are easy and taste good. Can any one help? We have tried to keep the meals fairly low in salt due to his father has high blood pressure and it runs in his family. Thanks for the help

Pick up all of the South Beach Diet books. They are based on glycemic index and most of the recipes are fabulous. maybe not as good as the originals but considering the healthfulness of the recipes they are a GREAT trade off. to boot, they are mostly easy and require a reasonable amount of ingredients. But hey he’s 15, if he’s active just monitor his glucose levels and most things are not that bad. just keep him in range and then the long term effects of diabetes will be lessened. Oh, if your insurance covers it get a pump if he is not resistnt to it. I can not wait until the biofeedback pumps are out…………
